A few pics of a "New" Thuer conversion in a customers Centaur
This rear loading conversion is a five shot in the 1860 and is chambered for the 45 Colt/Schofield (cowboy loads). The cylinders are 4140 and heat treated to approx 50-52 rockwell. This Registered (Trade Mark) modernization of the Thuer design utilizes an indexable ring that re-purposes the "Eject" position of the original as a SAFETY. It requires breaking the pistol down and cylinder removal for loading and unloading.
The Thuer conversion is available in a "Drop In" version (which is simplified for lower cost) and a "New" or full version as pictured here (available with hand engraved cylinder scene and ring at additional cost) as well as a "Modified" version which is a bit of a "fantasy" that allows rear loading through a port cut in the ring and the recoil shield of the revolver.
